The Big Book of Classic Fantasy di Ann e Jeff VanderMeer

Jeff VanderMeer è sicuramente una delle voci più importanti del fantastico contemporaneo, portavoce del new weird e giunto alla notorietà anche in Italia grazie soprattutto alla Trilogia dell’Area X, il cui primo romanzo Annientamento ha raggiunto il grande pubblico grazie anche a una trasposizione cinematografica di successo. VanderMeer, insieme alla moglie Ann, è anche stato curatore della monumentale raccolta di oltre mille pagine, The Weird: A Compendium of Strange and Dark Stories, pubblicata nel 2012, che copre il genere dalle origini sino ai giorni nostri.
Dopo che nel 2016 è stato pubblicato sempre con la loro curatela The Big Book of Science Fiction: The Ultimate Collection, ora la medesima operazione viene fatta con il genere fantasy in un volume di oltre 800 pagine uscito il 2 luglio con il titolo di The Big Book of Classic Fantasy: The Ultimate Collection.
L’interesse di tale antologia è la presenza di materiale proveniente da tutte le regioni del mondo, con quindi grande attenzione al fantasy non di matrice anglofona.

The Locus Science Fiction Foundation has announced the finalists in each category of the 2018 Locus Awards.

Neroeditions presenta la versione italiana dell’antologia curata da Ann e Jeff VanderMeer, intitolata Le Visionarie-fantascienza, fantasy e femminismo: un’antologia.
Il volume, di 536 pagine, raccoglie ventinove racconti di autrici che spaziano dal genere horror al fantasy, passando dalla fantascienza e dal weird, presentando nomi più classici come Ursula Le Guin e Tanith Lee ma anche più moderni come Nnedi Okorafor e Leena Krohn.

Jeff VanDerMeer è stato pubblicato in Italia da Einaudi (Trilogia dell’Area X) ed Elara (La città dei santi e dei folli), e un suo racconto è contenuto anche nell’antologia Nuovi Incubi di Edizioni Hypnos.

Bestiario Moderno
Centipede Press annuncia la prossima pubblicazione di The Bestiary, curato da Ann VanderMeer, con l’introduzione di Jeff VanderMeer.
La tradizione dei bestiari è lunga e radicata nel passato, ma in questo particolare volume potrete ammirare un “bestiario moderno”, ispirato alle opere di alcuni importanti scrittori dell’horror e del weird dei nostri tempi, come Karen Lord, Dexter Palmer, Brian Evenson, China Miéville, Felix Gilman, Catherynne M. Valente, Rikki Ducornet, e Karin Lowachee.
